Pole Sitter
Fastest Lap
Round 21 of the 2025 MotoGP season took us to Portimao for the Portuguese Grand Prix. This was the 20th Portuguese Grand Prix and the 7th time the Portimão circuit has been used.
Previously, the most successful rider at the track had been Pecco Bagnaia, with 2 wins and three podiums, but he was an outside bet following his recent run of poor form. It’s one of the few circuits that Marc Marquez is yet to stand on the top step of the podium at, and that would continue with his withdrawal from final rounds of the 2025 season.
The door was therefore left wide open for Alex Marquez to take 4th career Sprint Race win and for Marco Bezzecchi to clinch his 5th career Grand Prix win, and second of this year’s campaign. It was also his 8th pole and 2nd win / pole double. By leading every lap of the Grand Prix, Bezzecchi has also moved up to 17th on the all-time list of laps led, with 160 laps.
Pedro Acosta impressed on the KTM and scored his 10th Sprint and Grand Prix podiums. Acosta also set a new all-time race lap record, taking a few tenths of last year’s mark, and also took the fastest lap in the Sprint Race.
It was Aprilia’s 7th win, which means they now draw level with KTM.
It was also Miguel Oliveira's last home race, as he leaves MotoGP at the end of the season and moves to World Superbikes next year.
